God Does the Work, All We Do Is Ask ............... 7/20/11

Areas in our lives improve when we turn them over to God.  Progress is not a matter of working harder. Nor is it a result of thinking positively, despite what the self-help book proclaim.  Sorry, Oprah, Robert Schuller,Tony Robbins and Norman Vincent Peale. Our best efforts and thinking brought us to the state where we find ourselves.

Life improves when we rely upon God.  We need His transforming power.  We get better when He works in the vulnerable areas of our lives.  He helps us transcend weaknesses.

There's no humility in self-will.  How often we say, "I'll do this and I'll do that," without taking a moment to consider what God wants
to do in our lives.  This is known as God's will.  Easing God Out is a good way to look at ego.  It's better seeking God's assistance. The following is helpful:
Humility is a greatly misunderstood quality.  It is not weakness; it is strength.  It does not mean submission, resignation or compliance; all  these imply we still have lurking reservations. In humility , there is total willingness to accept God's help because we have finally been convinced that, without it, we cannot achieve our goals.
Humility is honesty and depth of vision, a realistic assessment of ourselves and our part in the scheme of things. It places us in a true relationship with God. Before all else, we stop trying to control people and happenings in our daily experience.  Our egos gave way to the Power in charge and the more we accepted that, the more we grew in the confident belief that there were other avenues open to us; we were no longer alone, we were no longer helpless, we could change, all we had to do was ask.....
As our dependence on God grows, we begin to overcome the habit of relying only  on ourselves.  To rid  ourselves of unwanted shortcomings, we learned  to rely on assistance from a spiritual partner [God].
The challenge facing us is the siren call of busyness.  Being harried is a primary characteristic of today's society.  Multiple demands are placed upon our time.  Few are needful.  Making time----Quiet Time---exercising spiritual disciplines and connecting with God, is critical.  We enjoy mental, spiritual, physical and emotional health when we do.  Investing in our lives in this way improves our lives. More serenity and sanity will be ours. We'll have a greater Attitude of Gratitude.

Let me know what you think. How do you spend time with your Higher Power, with God? Feel free to comment even if you read this weeks later. It's always terrific hearing other points of view.

My Gratitudes for Today:
1. I had a terrific time with two clients this evening. I love serving others.
2. I had dinner with friends.  It's nice checking in with my community.  Sharing downtime with others invigorates me.  It restores my soul, getting in  a few laughs.
3. I am loved by many. Knowing this fact strengthens me in times of trouble.
