Reducing Clutter

       Good evening,

It's still warm where I live.  How has the week been treating you?  I'm tired.  At 4:00 a.m., I've been rising each morning, this, after going to bed 1:00 a.m., or later. I agree, it's not the best arrangement.
My Gratitudes For Wednesday:
1. A terrific session with
a client, makes for a fulfilling afternoon.  The work I do is satisfying. I'm thankful that I'm able to help others, making my life count.
2. I'm spending time, filing papers. The reduction of clutter and increased clarity adds to my serenity.
3. This evening, cycling with another was very needed. I feel better when I discharge stress through physical exercise. It's an important way of  taking care of myself.
4. I gathered with friends in the evening.  It was great connecting with them.
5. I've been filing papers---I appreciate the order created when I do this, I'm feeding my inner adult.
6. A workshop next week on nonviolent communication, I'm preparing.  This will be for a peace conference happening in the Bay Area.   I'll also be part of a panel discussion. I'm happy I can add harmony to the Bay Area.
How About You?
What are your gratitudes?

Dear Innkeeper,

Today I am Grateful for...

1. A refreshing bike ride, "breakfast for dinner," and enlightening conversation with a mentor yesterday.

2. An early evening nap after a 13 hour work day, involving long but scenic travel through world-class Northern California wine country.

3. Taking time today for a late lunch break at Bouchon Bakery to grab a delicious salmon sandwich and green tea.

4. The unexpected haiku on the tea bottle; "Through muddied waters - A lotus finds the sunlight - Hope resurrected."

5. Letting go of regret over missing a weekly meeting and deep conversation with friends tonight, because I needed the rest more; a higher priority today. First things first.

6. A delicious dinner salad with fresh-baked chicken, and the surprise discovery of Frozen Vanilla Yogurt in the freezer, which I was of course compelled to try! (I did cycle off a lot of calories last night...)

7. The movie "What Dreams May Come," with Robin Williams; a must-see film about life, love, death, loss, hope, challenge and the power of true love to conquer death and even hell itself. If these themes are of interest to you, I highly recommend seeing it.

8. Being alive and having a body for my spirit/soul to grow in; grow my ability to give and receive more unconditional love, more often, with more people, one moment and one day at a time.

9. Being reminded (through this film) how "Fragile We Are," (Sting); how fleeting life can be. Tonight I learned of a friends passing only one month after his cancer diagnosis. How does one prepare for the eternal world of spirit when time is that short? Your thoughts?

Dear Carl,

How has the rest of the week been for you? You are doing the right thing: taking care of yourself. Balance is key for our health and serenity.

I'm excited for you. Do you feel better, as you find yourself transcending beyond your previous limitations?

Great question, Carl. I was at that point, once. I was in the hospital, and they thought I might have pancreatic cancer. I was remarkably serene. I posted about that experience here, in the inn.

I'd take the perspective of St. Francis and Martin Luther. The former when posed with the question what he would do, said, he'd continue hoeing his garden. The German reformer said he'd still plant his apple tree.

We normally die as we lived. I'd make time for family and dear ones, luxuriating in the limited time available.

I'd probably would share poetry with those with me, if they didn't mind.

I'd write letters that those who are part of my inner circle could revisit, after I'm gone. I'd let each person know how much I love them, and be very specific about what I cherish about them.

Internally, prayer and meditation, solitude, silence and simplicity works for me. Spending time, held within God's bosom of love and acceptance, I'd find comforting.

Enjoying nature, cycling and watching sunrises and sunsets---Where I'd be heading, the glory there is constant, and I might have the same opportunity,

I'd appreciate the many gifts that this life offers, I'd take advantage of them, while I still have breath. These are the thoughts that come to mind, off the top of my head.
