Taking it Easy---My Back Has Been Killing Me.

I'm taking it easy tonight. I'm heading off to bed early---I'm trying to get my body back into shape. My lower back has been a constant source of pain over the past five days.
    My Gratitudes for Today:
1. I'm thankful for my backache. It has
slowed me down. I'm taking it easy, physically, until I can move around easily. I've been napping more.  At the moment, it hurts bending my back.  I'm thankful for rest, and the health I'll have when the pain is gone.
2. I look forward to getting out and about tomorrow. I'll celebrate nature.  I'm hoping to ride my bike tomorrow.
3. I've been sorting out my priorities. The clarity it provides gives me greater peace of mind.  Over the past few days, I've reviewed my goals for the week, month, the next six months and year.
4. I cooked several meals tonight, batching them for the rest of this week. One of the things I made was homemade soup, which was fun. It's a great way to clear out the refrigerator. :)
5. I look forward to a conversation I'll have this week with a friend.  It will be helpful hearing his viewpoint, when we visit.
How About You?
1. Do you have any suggestions for backaches?
2. What are your gratitudes for today?

Hi, Pablo!

Back aches, yes. I have been dealing w/a VERY painful and chronic low back condition for some time now and have suggestions for you:

1. a book that i learned of in a class i accidentally took (another story) called Pain Free...by P. Egoscue. The simple e-cises, as they are called, have reduced the incredibly debilitating and persistent chronic pain I was experiencing by 85-90%(no exaggeration either!). I took the class at the Senior Center housed in the Veterans Memorial bldg on Harrison by Lake Merrit in Oakland. It's a Monday mid-morning class, around 10:30a.m. You can experience what the exercises are like in a peaceful and meditative atmosphere before you get the book if you like.

2. my chiropractor and non-physician osteopath bodyworker - both are deeply gifted individuals, passionate about their work and are also warm and welcoming down to earth folk. The chiropractor is doing a presentation next tues at 6:15 p.m. at the West Cafe on Webster street in Alameda - comes w/a free dinner and raffle tickets for a $50 visa card and local eatery certificates. I made reservations for myself and 2 others. One person cannot make it as she has a previous engagement, so I invite you to take her seat, enjoy the meal, get more insight into this healing modality - NOT the snap crackle and pop most associate chiropractic with. My bodyworker is also Alameda based, on Park street at the health club. If you'd like to pursue this modality (very relaxing and extremely effective) let me know and I'll give you her info.

3. gentle yoga - i can show you a few things that have been a boon to me over the last 35-40 yrs.

Soup!! I'll be going to market tomorrow to make my large batch, half of which I freeze. Great for a quick mealand i enjoy the meditative nature of handling and preparing nourishment from the Creator's bounty!

My 3 gratitudes for today:

a week of paid work at a place i enjoy and where my contribution is sincerely appreciated, allowing me to meet my bills this month and possible figure out a way to get my desparately in need of repair car underway soon.

hearing my dear sister who lives in the midwest tell me the back place she is going to is working so well she has retired her wheel chair - PRAYERS OF MANY, MANY YEARS ANSWERED, YES!!!

spending time tonight w/the 3 colorful 5 x 8 cards you guided me thru and making a few phone calls to continue my climb to happier ground from the recent awful low point and isolation i was in.

additionally, I am very appreciative of: doing very well on a module exam tonight and progressing to the next book in this coursework, as well as coming across an article in an enewsletter i get that has impacted my thinking around work.

WEll, it's about midnight and I better call it a night so I can move into the workday tomorrow fairly well rested.

Good night!

My father has suffered from chronic backaches his entire adult life. For him, it's mainly a process of managing it as opposed to curing it. Yours doesn't sound chronic though so that's a good thing. One of my good friends is a chiropractor so I will ask her some suggestions!

Hello Pablo, I'm pleased to know you were able to ride again, after the back pain. My Wednesday gratitude's were...
1. Grateful my older son is off to VA on the wings of recovery and the promise of a new beginning.
2. Grateful my petulant son is in his new-found cottage, on his own, and living the natural consequences of behaviors and life-style choices.
3. Grateful for the safe space, peace and serenity of a drama-free home.

Aileen,

Good to see you again. I might take up your suggestion, and visit the Monday class. The pain in my back is quieting down, however, thank God.

Aileen, I'm interested in next Tuesday's event. Thank you!

I really appreciate your honesty! I'm glad you have tools that are helping you to climb out of the hole of despair that you were in.

Your three gratitudes make my day---I love it when guests sign the registry to this inn with their gratitudes!

A happy innkeeper

Keith,

Thanks for your concern. I'd still be interested in any info you come up with regarding bad backs!

You are right, I should count my blessings---this back pain is not chronic. I'm getting better.

I trust you had a fantastic weekend.
