A Terrific Way To Start the Week ......3/25/13

Where I cycled in Alameda. Lovely, the weather and view.
    Good evening,

I just got in.  How was your day?  I worked.  I even received country doctor
wages. Someone baked my favorite pie, strawberry-rhubarb as partial payment for my services.  Yum.

Afterwards, I cycled, saw a movie, had dinner and a great time of fellowship, all with the same friend today.  She's even left-handed like me.  Our conversation and laughter was a great antidote to the intense nature of my work.

Life is good. I'm a lucky man.  My life, profession, friends and the direction my life is taking, I love.

My Gratitudes for Sunday:
1.  I was inspired when with my first client. It will be exciting to see how the recommendations I suggested will turn out.
2.  Today's weather was gorgeous, and I was able to ride my bike in it. I loved where we went----I rode along glassy lagoons dotted with herons, ducks and other waterfowl.

The changing skyscapes as the clouds drifted by were calmly majestic.
3. I was nourished by the conversation I shared with the friend I was with all day.  I really like the laughter, and authenticity that flowed as we enjoyed the beginning of this new week.

How About You?
What are your gratitudes for today? I'd love hearing them.

Dear Innkeeper,

Today, Monday, March 25, my gratitudes are;

1. That I could invite a colleague out to a super-sized, home-style breakfast at Nick's only to learn in the course of our conversation that his birthday was yesterday! Wow, what serendipity! So I asked him to claim the meal as his belated birthday treat!

2. That the chefs at a new seafood restaurant group client seem pleased so far (knock on wood...) with our tuna, and even beginning to order other products.

3. That our youngest son and his youth-group friends all made it home safe and sound from a long camping, hiking and surfing weekend at Big Sur.

4. That he still had enough energy left to cook up a nice spaghetti dinner (his dinner/dishes night) for all.

5. That I could enjoy a sorely needed, soul-renewing, 2 hour nap after work.

6. A reminder on Sunday morning of the last item on Pi's list (Life of Pi)...Never Lose Hope! If you have not seen the film, please do. (And I challenge you to figure out which of his two stories about his adventure adrift at sea is true and real, and why...)

7. And this brings me to close with two thoughtfully rich quotes on "doubt" and "belief" from Yann Martell, author of "Life of Pi.

“If Christ spent an anguished night in prayer, if He burst out from the Cross, 'My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?' then surely we are also permitted doubt. But we must move on. To choose doubt as a philosophy of life is akin to choosing immobility as a means of transportation.”

“If you stumble about believability, what are you living for? Love is hard to believe, ask any lover. Life is hard to believe, ask any scientist. God is hard to believe, ask any believer. What is your problem with hard to believe?”

Be well my friends, and many, many blessings to one and all.

Dear Carl,

I can always count on you sharing wonderful news at this inn. Thank you, for making this place as uplifting as it is.

I'm glad you are taking care of yourself. Big Sur is a fantastic place to camp. I've been there plenty of times. I'd like to drop by sometime this summer.

The movie, "The Life of Pi" was amazing, Hitchockian, with it's interesting twist at the end.

Great quotes, thank you, Carl, for sharing them! I missed them while watching the movie.

I'm trusting this week is working out well for you.
