A Rich Day ......8/6/13

Treat everyone you meet as if they were going to be dead by midnight. Extend to
them all the care, kindness and understanding you can muster, and do it with
no thought of any reward. Your life will never be the same again. (Og Mandino)

    How are you?

My day was wonderful, positive, encouraging, nurturing and honest. This morning I met with someone at my favorite breakfast place.  I got to know him like
never before.  I admired his values, how he stuck to them when others wanted to take advantage of him, when he first started out in business, after graduating from college.

He surprised me twice: he picked up the tab for the meal and he gave a thoughtful gift.  Wow, it was uplifting, being appreciated.  I'd like to know this person better.  We have a lot in common and I appreciate his honesty about areas where he wants to improve.

After our visit, I saw a new client.  Our session was intense.  I was wiped out afterwards, still feeling the effects of a busy Monday.  The rest of the day ebbed, my body and mind were unable to function.

Following work, I met with friends. We watched the San Francisco Giants baseball team play, sharing dinner at the same time.  I appreciate balancing the time I spent serving others with an evening of fun, doing what nurtured me.

I'll rework this post tomorrow.  I'll share about an honest conversation I had with someone, late this evening.  Right now, I'm tired, unable to write anything else.

How About You?

  3. Dear Broken,

I'm glad getting to know this person. It's been one of the better surprises of this year. Congratulations on being accepted at an university! I'm happy for you! I am always glad when you drop by, you make this place better, with your presence.

  4. Dear Keith,

All of us here at the inn are extremely happy you are still with us!! This place would not be the same without your visits. Your girlfriend is quite the hero, too, and the helpful Good Samaritan. Wow.

I'm thankful you were kind about my Giants, by not mentioning their performance this year. I'm concerned about our quarterback. He's definitely different from what we've had: Montana, Young and Alex Smith. None of them would have been caught in photos like his.

  5. Dear Innkeeper,

On this Wednesday night, I am grateful,

    1. To have been able to learn over the course of these past two years how to embrace unexpected change, with positivity and gratitude, and see these moments as opportunities to grow.

    2. Due to a change in schedule, to have a quiet dinner and evening at home, listening to some music, and early to retire.

    3. To accept and embrace a challenging work, travel schedule tomorrow with a willing mind and heart.

    4. To have spent some time with my third oldest son Vincent in SF; to visit his apartment for the first time, meet a roommate, and catch up on each others lives, while dropping him off downtown.

  6. It is wonderful that you have been surprised by another person. It is always good to expand our circle of friends.

    My gratitudes for today:

Today I was driving across a cross walk, and though I believed I was being aware and careful, I caught sight of a woman who had been in my blind spot. I was sooo grateful to God that I saw her and did not hit her. It really scared me.

I redid a closet and turned it into a "business closet" - so I have a lot more room for records, notes, business supplies. I am grateful that I had the tools I needed and could use my friend's shop to cut some wood. It was easy and rewarding.

I am experiencing added energy and enthusiasm and interest. This is really good news.

  8. Hi there, Theresa!

I bet that lady crossing the street was grateful, too. Did you feel more effective, after reorganizing your closet?

What do you think is contributing to your increased energy??

  9. Carl,

That is a lesson that will serve you well: growing in acceptance, not with resignation, but with grace and wisdom, discerning how to move forward, when life tosses out its challenges.

You are an example for those who drop by this inn: this would be a better world if others embraced life's demands and reality with a positive perspective. This link, especially the video within this post, "Life Is Not A Correspondence Program," deals with this subject. Thank you, Carl, for being a real-life example of accepting negative realities. I love your Attitude of Graitude!
